A-Level English Literature is the subject where your set texts are least likely to match anyone else's: boards choose different plays, different novels and different poets, and one board's paper can be about writing you were never taught. What does transfer is the method — reading form, structure and language as choices a writer made, handling a critical interpretation as a position to be tested rather than a fact to be repeated, and using context to illuminate a text rather than to pad an essay. Practice here works on that method, and it does so on writing that is out of copyright — Shakespeare, the Romantics, the Victorian novel — so that the skills can be exercised without reproducing material that belongs to a publisher.
