A-Level Geography is two subjects held together by a method. The physical half works on systems — the water and carbon cycles, coasts, glaciated landscapes, tectonic and meteorological hazards — where the marks go to candidates who can trace a change through inputs, stores, flows and feedback rather than listing landforms. The human half works on processes — globalisation, changing places, urban environments, population and resources — where the marks go to candidates who can say who benefits from a change and who does not, and on what evidence. Boards differ over which optional topics they set and which case studies they expect, so practice here concentrates on the mechanisms and on reading data, which transfer to whichever examples your centre teaches.
A levels are awarded by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA, and regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA Regulation, the regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
