GCSE Mathematics covers five broad content areas common across exam boards: number (arithmetic, powers, surds), algebra (equations, sequences, graphs, functions), ratio, proportion and rates of change (percentages, compound measures, direct/inverse proportion), geometry and measures (angles and polygons, circle theorems, Pythagoras and trigonometry), and probability and statistics (data handling, sampling, probability trees). Foundation and Higher tier questions are both represented, with an emphasis on the problem-solving and reasoning skills examiners now test alongside pure calculation.
GCSEs are awarded by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA, and regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA Regulation, the regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
