The Digital core is the knowledge shared by everyone working in the sector before they specialise into production, support or business analysis: how problems are broken down and solved, how data is gathered, stored and protected, what the legislation actually requires of an organisation holding personal data, the threats a system faces and the controls that answer them, and the project methodologies a team works inside. It is examined by written papers rather than by building anything, so what is being tested is whether you can apply a principle to a described workplace rather than whether you can code. Practice here works on that: a scenario, a constraint, and a decision that follows from both.
