Every A-Level Economics course begins here, and examiners return to these foundations constantly: scarcity, choice and opportunity cost are the lens through which every later topic — from market failure to macro policy — is analysed. This quiz secures that lens.
The opportunity cost questions work at A-level precision: reading a trade-off expressed as "one more unit of X costs 4 units of Y", computing the marginal cost of a 101st unit from total cost figures, and understanding the margin as the unit of economic decision-making. The production possibility frontier gets a full treatment in words — what a movement along the frontier represents (reallocating resources between goods), what produces an outward shift (improvements in human capital, technological advance), what production inside the frontier signals (productive inefficiency and unemployed resources), and why a bowed-out frontier encodes the law of increasing opportunity cost through imperfectly substitutable resources.
