GCSE Computer Science is examined in two written papers: one on computer systems — architecture, memory and storage, networks, security and the ethical and legal issues around them — and one on computational thinking, algorithms and programming, where you read, trace and write code on paper. Every board sets its own reference language or pseudocode for the written papers, so check which one yours uses; the logic being tested is the same either way. Practice here targets the parts that reward recall and precision: the vocabulary of hardware and networking, binary and hexadecimal conversion, the difference between two algorithms that sound alike, and tracing what a short program actually does rather than what it appears to do.
